My name is Samantha, and am the creator of Unplanned Whimsy.

Why the name “Unplanned Whimsy”?

Well, starting a craft business wasn’t my first plan in life.

I graduated Summa Cum Laude from The Ohio State University in 2017 with a degree in Hospitality and Minors in Business and History. I had my whole life planned… Starting my career as an Activities Director on a Cruise Ship, I was going to see the world, move to Hawaii, work at a resort, help guests make wonderful vacations memories to cherish all while having fun doing it. But those dreams were soon out of reach. I was diagnosed with a series of debilitating health conditions that raged hell through my life plans as they flared and became out of control: POTS, Dysautonomia, Hypokalemic Periodic Paralysis, Migraines, weakness, fatigue, brain fog, frequent fainting, Meniere’s, Madelungs Deformity, the ridiculous list goes on.

After fighting through the depression of not only giving up my dreams, but being unable to work at all. I needed something in my life to give me purpose. That’s when Unplanned Whimsy was born. I have always loved crafting, as well as teaching others how to make whimsical things, so what started as an Etsy shop has now grown to what you see here.

I am just an entrepreneur out to spread joy and share my story.
