DIY Stovetop Potpourri to Make Your Home Smell Amazing this Winter

My favorite thing about spring’s warm weather is busting open the windows to bring in some fresh air. There is just something about being closed in all winter that can really make the house stuffy and stinky. Since the cold air outside prevents me from opening the windows, I need something else to defunk my home.

I love stovetop potpourri for a few reasons:

  • It’s easy to make
  • It smells so good
  • It won’t have any chemicals or synthetic ingredients
  • You can control what goes into it: meaning you control the scent
  • It is a great way to use any aged fruit that may be a bit too old to eat (Reducing food waste)

You can basically use any combination of ingredients, depending on what you have in your pantry. I usually go for this simple combination that I have photographed today, but there are other recipes that I will share at the end of this post you can try too.

Also, just as a note I don’t take measurements so nothing is really exact here. If you like the scent of something, you can add more of it. If you don’t care for the smell of an ingredient, you can leave it out completely. It’s just that easy. Okay, moving on…

Samantha’s Winter Stovetop Potpourri:

I moved some of the cloves from the bottom of the pot and punched them into the oranges for a more fragrant blend

Simmer on low to allow the fragrance to slowly evaporate and disperse throughout your home.

If you would like to prolong the scent just continue to add more water until you are finished.

Here is a written version of this recipe as well as a few others to try out:

I hope you have a whimsical day and enjoy these recipes!
